I appreciate that Dr. Kagan draws our attention to the limits of our methods and measures for assessing attachment as well as to the dangers of overemphasizing the influence of attachment patterns with early caregivers over other important factors such as temperament, socioeconomic status, and culture. There are certainly a multitude of factors that shape an individual’s performance in the Strange Situation and on the Adult Attachment Interview, and Dr. Kagan, in emphasizing this, helps us maintain a more expansive, nuanced, and critical view. Thank you to both!
