By Rich Simon As therapists, many of us practice in two different worlds. In the first, we see polite, well-behaved, articulate clients with solid values. They engage fully in therapy, talk cogently about their problems, listen attentively to our responses, make reasonably good-faith efforts to follow our suggestions, and sooner or later get better. No wonder we genuinely like these people! Using the visual arts, storytelling, theater improvisations, and other arts modalities, we’ll focus on our own visions for the future. Then, using approaches drawn from life-coaching, we’ll develop action plans for making our dreams a reality. Not only will you focus on your strengths, gifts, and possibilities, but you’ll take away skills that can make profound shifts in the way you practice your healing craft. Throughout the day, we’ll emphasize the cultivation of curiosity, the power of deep listening, and the deep nurturance that occurs when we experience moments of shared revelation.
