Terry Real • Friday Morning
LOCATION: ROBERTS PDR ROOM
We’ve all met troubled men who are irresponsible, oppressive, or emotionally absent. Treating them requires a range of strategies. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to identify and develop different approaches for working with men
—ranging from mentoring to coaxing to using leverage—to effectively work with the following types of issues of shame and grandiosity, as well as toxic engagement and disengagement:
- The Boys — the sensitive Peter Pans and the fiery “bad boys” who won’t (or don’t know how to) grow into a mutual relationship or take on family responsibilities
- The Bullies — the grandiose men who control their codependent partners and retaliate when they can’t maintain power or control
- The Avoiders — the damaged souls whose attachment injuries have left them unable to stay the course of a relationship, especially when the going gets tough
Terry Real, LICSW, founded the Relational Life Institute and is Good Morning, America’s relationship expert. His books include The New Rules of Marriage: What You Need to Make Love Work and the bestseller I Don’t Want to Talk About It: Overcoming the Secret Legacy of Male Depression.
