Increasing numbers of therapists are adding coaching techniques to their skill set, and this workshop will show you why. In addition to helping motivate clients to action, incorporating a coaching-oriented approach can enhance your work with individuals who are eager for results or who resist therapy because they equate it with pathology. You’ll see demonstrations of—and get an opportunity to try out—“up-language” techniques that shift the conversation from topics like trauma and pain to subjects like vision, possibility, achievement, and self-care. We’ll explore ways to adapt standard therapeutic questioning to the more open-ended questions skills coaches use. You’ll leave knowing how to use the coaching “edge” to send a more direct message to your clients about the actions they need to take and how to follow through to achieve their goals.
