Steven Hayes, Ph.D. Steven Hayes, Ph.D., is a Professor at the Department of Psychology at the University of Nevada. He is an acknowledged leader of the “third wave” of cognitive psychotherapy, which holds that we should accept even our negative thoughts as an integral part of life, rather than trying to eliminate them. Steven Hayes is also the founder of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS) and the innovator behind Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). He is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy.
