In this workshop, we’ll explore a comprehensive mind-body approach to treatment, in which the therapist maintains an ongoing, compassionate therapeutic presence while educating the patient in an active program of self-care. You’ll learn how to incorporate in your treatment program meditative practices, guided imagery, physical movement like tai chi or dancing, exercise, diet and nutrition, and expressive arts--all individualized to the client’s needs and preferences. Not only is the evidence for the mental health benefits of these and other techniques mounting, but the guided self-care approach tends to be more effective and more economical than standard approaches. We’ll also explore how to do psychoeducational work with groups that incorporates these same self-care approaches.
