In this discussion, a panel of three clinicians--a lesbian, a gay man, and a straight woman --will lead a conversation about the impact of sexual orientation and social attitudes on the dynamics of individual couples, and whether the distinctions are significant enough to warrant a therapist of the same orientation. Does the therapist require specialized knowledge to work with couples of a different sexual orientation? These three panelists will discuss their work with couples who both share and don’t share their sexual orientation, and enrich the discussion with research updates on the clinical issues related to gay and lesbian couples.
